Helping is a Covid-19 Cure-All
When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping’.
Mr. Rogers
Globally our new normal (however temporary) is filled with infection, death, anxiety, fear, self-quarantine, social distancing, entire country lock-downs, financial crisis, and HOPE.
In times like these, our sanity will suffer if we don’t’ “focus on the good”.
Before the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) became the current global pandemic, I wrote a blog in an attempt to both calm and inform.
It started with the basic CDC (Center for Disease Control) recommendations to practice good hygiene.
Now directives have escalated to avoiding social contact in this vicious fight to combat this easily spread virus!
And the world came together as the people stayed apart.
UNKNOWN
In the midst of all of the doom and gloom, the helpers are ever-present.
I went to several stores yesterday and was astounded at the empty shelves that would normally hold paper goods, cleaning supplies, and water.
Meat was also very scarce.
The pictures below are from a Wal-mart I visited this morning. The shelves looked much better than yesterday.
I went early so that could be why.
TIP: Most U.S. restaurants are still open with the exception of dine-in. Food delivery services are temporarily waiving fees.
Courage: Don’t you dare fail me now!
Like everything, it’s on pause, but I blogged about Celine Dion’s ‘Courage World Tour’. It’s a message we can all take comfort in right now.
People have turned to the arts like never before!
Italians and Spaniards have taken to shouting joyful melodies straight from their balconies.
In America, #clubquarantine is trending on Twitter as DJ’s like D-Nice throw live parties.
From the Caribbean to Europe, governments are proposing measures to fill in the financial gaps brought on by closures and unemployment.
Morale is lifted even more as famous A-listers (Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Janet Jackson, and Mark Zuckerberg to name a few) “join the party”.
John Legend gave fans a free concert live from his home.
The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it.

Several NBA players have volunteered to pay the salaries of staff at the arenas closed during this ordeal.
Steph Curry has donated large amounts towards feeding children who are out of school.
Rihanna has given generously in providing medical supplies to her homeland of Barbados.
Mixed in with the hoarding and panic buying, its a relief to see the heartwarming stories coming out of this worldwide dilemma.
Your Humanity is Showing
There was the elderly husband who stood outside his wife’s nursing home with the sign: “I’ve loved you 67 years and still do. Happy Anniversary”.
He was not about to let their restrictive visiting policies stop him from acknowledging the momentous occasion.
Then I read about the son who sat daily next to the window of his father’s nursing home to make sure he did not miss visits.
Country music’s Brad Paisley free grocery store in Nashville is delivering food to the elderly.
Stores have now allocated time slots where only the elderly can shop.
TIP: I like to share info on social media whenever I see essential products available in local stores.
As we all take measures to combat COVID-19, make sure your mental health is a top priority.
Create a self-care routine where you intentionally focus on peace of mind.
Unplugging from social media when necessary and getting daily sunlight are basic steps anyone can take.
AMC Theatres has released movies ahead of time through streaming.
Other entertainment options include 14 museums offering virtual tours.
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

I believe we will get through this tough time! Don’t let the COVID-19 virus win!
Whatever you do, don’t lose your hope!
Until next time, Bee Well!!!
What are some self-care measures you’ve adopted? Share to help others! We’re all in this together!

March 24, 2020 at 3:06 pmI went fishing again today to get away from everything. We have tickets to The Rolling Stones in late May and it’s already been postponed. I need them to stay healthy and reschedule.

March 30, 2020 at 6:40 amHi Mike. Good to see you outdoors getting that fresh air and much-needed vitamin D. I’m just waiting on the official cancellation notice today for my April 27th cruise. I’ve already looked at possible replacement dates. My birthday is in June. Hope things quiet down by then! 🙂

March 25, 2020 at 12:25 pmWe are all in this together. Thank you for the positive post. I like to think bad times bring out the best in us. I feel I can’t complain when I’m only being asked to stay home and be safe. Staying away from the 24/7 news cycle is part of my self care routine. Stay well.

March 30, 2020 at 6:20 amHi Ana, you’re so right! People seldom make the correlation between mind and body! This is the best time to guard the mind so that our bodies can be in optimal position to fight off anything!

March 25, 2020 at 6:37 pmGreat post Sandra! We can all use a little hope in our day. I’ve witnessed so many examples of kindness, generosity, and service in our community. Neighbors shopping for the older folks, helping each other with technology, dance parties in the driveways careful to stay in our own driveway but enjoy the music blaring down the street. We done a lot of zoom calls with family and friends to keep in touch. It’s a whole new world, thanks for the positivity. C
