Looking Back: A Rear View of 2019 Travels

Bye 2019 (Travels)

The idea to write an annual summary blog (on 2019 travels) was totally spontaneous.

It came to me just before 6pm on 12/30/2019.

No pressure!!!

My Thanksgiving and Christmas blogs were no different!

I started my blogging career this summer! A lot of blog ideas seem to come out of the blue.

Most of the subjects I had written down are already published.

I can’t believe I’ve been blogging for nearly half a year. Time indeed flies!

I debated on doing a 6 month or 12 year blogging anniversary post. This comes close.

2019 started with my first snow in Chicago.

I had no idea that 6 months later “Poofbeegoneblog” would be birthed out of my love for travel and writing.

Total 2019 roundtrip miles: 5838

Chicago was the only U.S. state I visited this year. I traveled to two U.S. territories (first time in St. Thomas and second in Puerto Rico).

Airplane Mode

Total 2019 Plane rides: 7

My plane rides total is uneven since my connecting flight into O’hare was canceled.

It was expected but as with the snow, it was a first for me!

Snow (winter) changes everything!

In March, I took a 5-day cruise to Nassau, Turks and Caicos and Carnival’s island (Half Moon Cay).

Half Moon Cay is where I injured my ankle (another first and prayerfully last).

I had to make the best of things and not allow an injury to ruin my whole trip.

My favorite trip of 2019 has to be my June birthday in Kingston, Jamaica.

I came! I saw! I fell in love!

I think I was already half in love through my passion for Bob Marley’s work. The trip just sealed the deal.

Kingston was a total infusion into Jamaican culture.

Even though Jamaica was the best trip, I also experienced my scariest travel moment. I left my wallet at home!

I had $200 in Jamaican money that I had kept separate. This held me over until my cousin could wire me more.

My “Marley Tour” was incomplete!

I do plan on returning in 2020 to a different part of the island.

This was the first birthday in 3 years that I’ve strayed from attending Essence Fest.

I helped a friend plan a solo trip to New Orleans (so close enough).

“Puerto Rico Does It Better”

Puerto Rico was my last trip of 2019. I can’t go into details since I haven’t blogged about it but I missed 2 pre-paid tours.

Total Excursions/Tours of 2019: 4/6

Thankfully, I received a refund on one.

Total 2019 cruises: 2

My best travel surprise happened on the 7-day cruise out of Puerto Rico. I made “gold status”!

I wasn’t expecting it until my next cruise!

Total 2019 Hotels: 1

2019 Airbnb’s: 2

Total Caribbean Countries Visited in 2019 : 8 (Bahamas {my birthplace}, Turks and Caicos, Jamaica, St.Thomas, Sint Maarten, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Barbados.)

I try to make it to one Miami Heat away game. Sadly after my failed Chicago attempt, it never happened.

Hopefully, that changes in 2020!

All in all, 2019 was a good year! Only more travel would have made it great.

In 2020 and beyond, I’m looking forward to more European travels!
